Acting on a request from the Stony Lake Camp Board, the Laestadian Lutheran Church (LLC) Board of Directors appointed the SLC Development Committee in April 2013. The committee was asked to assess the current condition of LLC's oldest camp facility, Stony Lake Camp, and to consider how to best meet the membership's current and future needs in the Stony Lake Camp support area. In the Fall of 2013, presentations and discussions were arranged in the SLC support area (Minnesota) congregations.
The Committee, with input from the Fall 2013 congregation visits, developed a proposal to meet growing camp needs. A report was submitted to the LLC Board in October 2014 and was discussed at a joint LLC/SLC Board and Development Committee meeting in December 2014. The proposal was also presented at the Meeting of the Boards of the Midwestern Area Congregations (MBMAC) in December 2014. The committee’s study concluded that the preferred current option is further development of the existing camp facility. Working with an architect and surveyor, conceptual drawings were developed for a project that would expand the camp and increase event capabilities through the construction of a new, single-level camp center designed for year-round operation, accompanied by new lodging and remodeling of the existing main building.
The SLC Development Committee is currently arranging presentations and discussions in the camp support area congregations to share their thoughts about future needs and expansion at Stony Lake Camp and to collect feedback from the support-area congregations.
