Lowering the Threshold to Discuss Sensitive Topics

We began our work together in prayer, asking our heavenly Father for wisdom, clarity, and guidance in our work together. Six fruitful meetings later, we are still praying those same words, but perhaps we have a deeper understanding of just how much we need them. 

As a workgroup assigned by the LLC Home and Family Committee, our small group – representing many walks of life – was asked to gather and prepare resources to help families address and discuss the topic of sexuality. Early on, it seemed like we had quickly found a clear direction as we brainstormed numerous topics at different developmentally appropriate age levels. As we started to formulate talking points, our continued discussions around these matters gave us pause. The more we talked and listened, we came to recognize just how broad, personal, and even tender this topic is. 

Our meetings have provided space for honest thoughts and questions. At times it has felt like we had a clear path forward. And yet, just as often we have felt reason to pause – a sense that we were being asked to slow down, to listen more closely, and to ask more questions. We have come to recognize this not as a setback, but rather as God’s answer to our prayer for guidance. 

This process has reminded us that conversations around sexuality are not simply about providing factual information. These conversations are about people, relationships, and faith. They carry personal stories and sometimes hurt. Sexuality is a sensitive topic, with varying levels of comfort and openness to discuss it. Because of this, it is our desire to approach this work with both truth and grace, holding space for honest conversations while remaining rooted in living faith. 

Matters of sexuality are not new. The Bible has much instruction on these topics and in our search for resources, we have found many articles that have been published in the Voice of Zion over the years, focused on supporting the believer with temptations and trials related to sexuality. 

While we do not yet have a finalized set of resources, God is continuing to guide our path forward. Our goal is to help lower the threshold for families, youth, and fellow escorts in faith to talk about these important topics – to encourage environments where questions can be asked, conversations can happen, and faith and God’s Word can remain at the center. 

As we continue this work forward, we ask for your continued prayers and patience. This is not our committee’s work alone, but work carried forward with the support of our congregations and under God’s guiding hand.
